HASMONEAN PALACE AT JERICHO
A drawing of the main building, gardens and twin pools at Jericho Generations of the Hasmonean royal family used the oasis-complex at Jericho as a retreat from the heat and noise of Jerusalem. It was large, sprawling, and considered to be a bit old-fashioned. When Herod assumed power he wanted something better. He rebuilt and refurbished the palace, so that it was, in his eyes, more suitable as a royal residence.
