LOW POINT FOR JERUSALEM

Plan of Jerusalem at the time of Ezra and Nehemiah

Outline of Jerusalem at the time of Nehemiah - 5th century BC

At this time the population was so depleted that it could now fit into the limits of David's city. Jerusalem was little more than a poor provincial town.

It is little wonder that the rebuilding of the Temple was postponed for twenty years.

It is hard to be enthusiastic about rebuilding a Temple when there is not enough to eat.
