FAMINE AND DEATH
Famine in Africa Some photographs are almost too horrible to look at. Perhaps they are the ones that should be seen. Famine was real for the people of the Old Testament - perhaps more so than now. There could be no overseas aid or trucked-in food in the ancient world. All they had was grain stored from previous harvests. When this ran out, there was nothing to be done, no help available. The rich and powerful were as helpless as the poor - as Queen Jezebel and King Ahab found. When drought took hold in Israel at the time of Elijah and Ahab, people prayed desperately for rain. Followers of Baal, the god of thunder, rain and water, clung to the hope that he would hear their prayers.
