ELIJAH CONFRONTS JEZEBEL
Frederick Lord Leighton: Elijah, Jezebel and Ahab Look at the body language. Elijah dominates the scene, striding into the space with more majesty that King Ahab and Queen Jezebel can summon. His eyes seem fixed on some other, sacred reality. King Ahab is already defeated - trapped between two dominating personalities on either side of him. His face betrays the dark depression that seemed to dog him in his final years - though he would eventually throw it off, to die a noble death in battle. Jezebel wear a small crown and a scarf, but is otherwise garbed all in black. She does not face Elijah - even her strong personality flinches away from open confrontation with his frightening power.
