AHAB DIES A NOBLE DEATH
A wounded soldier in the Iraqi War Ahab seems to have been the sort of man who preferred the battlefield to politics and administration - and given the politics of the day, who can blame him? He lived in the shadow of his father, an administrative and military genius who is hardly mentioned in the Bible. Yet Ahab certainly acquitted himself well. He died in battle, surrounded by his fellow soldiers, and though the biblical writers did everything they could to vilify him, he was one of Israel's outstanding kings. 29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.
